Watu wa Maana Children home in Ruiru Kiambu County

The Chiromo SMU staff members in conjunction with stakeholders sew it fit to give back to the society In line with its performance contract and the desire by the University of Nairobi mandate of participating in a corporate social responsibility. Chiromo SMU visited the Watu wa Maana Children home in Ruiru Kiambu County on April 20, 2013.

This was to benefit the less fortunate members of our society. The SMU, Prof. Paul N. Ndegwa, together with the SMU staff members in the spirit of shared leadership and team spirit identified a needy institution such as a children’s home or even home of the elderly. The committee identified “Watu wa Maana” Children’s home located on the Ruiru-Kiambu Road, just near Ruiru town to be the beneficiary.

With no budgetary allocation for such events the SMU had to seek alternative ways to fundraise either by contributing from staff either through voluntary staff contribution or any other source of funds. In line with that staff members agreed to contribute Kshs. 200 per month for two months towards the visit. All committee members agreed to contribute Kshs. 500 per month for two months. That all Departments forfeit sugar for in their tea for two months and the equivalent cash be used to meet part of the budget.

The SMU raised enough money to buy foodstuff and other items as per the wish list of the institution, which was donated to the children home. The children home was very great full to the SMU for the kind gesture and requested for further cooperation amongst the two institutions.
