Customers being served by Varsity Catering Staff during the Science Week Event


A week long science and innovation forum which brings together Policy makers, scholars, academicians, scientists, entrepreneurs and innovators from national and regional institutions was held at the Chancellor’s court from the 11th to the 15th of May 2015.

This 4th National Science week attracted participants and exhibitors from Universities, Research Institutions, Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurial Training (TVET) Institutions, International organizations and Development partners. Discussions focused on five sub themes namely, Agriculture and Food security; Energy and Climate Change; Environmental and Natural Resource Management; Water, Sanitation and Health as well as Knowledge Management and Technology Transfer.

Varsity Catering Services, under Student Welfare Authority (SWA) was privileged to give catering services for the event.  This included providing tea, snacks and lunch for the participants and those who attended the forum. The patronage included the chief guest and other high profile guests during the weeklong event that saw top Government officials, Diplomats and top University of Nairobi Management and staff attend.

During such high profile events like this, Varsity Catering Services require additional kitchen staffs that are mobilized from the other kitchens across the 11 Strategic Management Units (SMUs). The menu comprised of a wide array of scrumptious cuisines prepared through high quality five star standards set to cater for the distinguished guest.

The National Science week is organized by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology through the National Commission of Science Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) and also through collaborative programmes with Germany and Japan.

This year’s event saw over 100 exhibitors, displaying various items related to scientific innovations. The exhibitions aim to showcase, celebrate, recognize and reward outstanding Kenya scientists and innovators. The forum also creates more opportunities for the innovative youths and empowers them on the important role played by science and technology.
